Community conservation relies heavily on effective communication and creating safe and productive space for learning and engagement to take place. Enabling this dialogue between conservation and people living at the interface with wildlife is crucial for the long term success of conservation initiatives.

At the end of September 2021, Wildlife ACT’s Community Conservation Manager, Zama Ncube and Human-Wildlife Coexistence Manager, PJ Roberts, had the privilege of being invited to a Training the Trainers workshop hosted by partners, People Nature Connect.

The focus of this 4-day training workshop was to improve participants’ understanding of adult education and empower them with tools to facilitate effective engagement with communities surrounding protected areas.

“It was a great opportunity to be a part of this training with our partners Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and People Nature Connect.” Zama Ncube highlighted.

“I’ve learned a great deal on how to engage with people of different ages and backgrounds, and I have begun to understand how the past truly impacts on how people experience the present. I am very grateful for this opportunity and am looking forward to putting what we have learned into practice”

This training forms part of a larger project that is supported by IUCN Save Our Species and is co-funded by European Union. These skills are crucial for the effective implementation of Wildlife ACT’s Community Conservation and Human-Wildlife Coexistence Programmes.
