Please see the following statement from PETA Vice President Dr. Alka Chandna regarding the critical citation posted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture against North American Science Associates in Minneapolis because of injuries sustained by a dog and the death of another one:

North American Science Associates (NAMSA), a scalpel-for-hire contract laboratory that experiments on animals for the highest bidder, siphons taxpayer dollars through federal government contracts but is too cheap to spring for the most basic protections to keep its caged dogs alive, and one has died because of it.

A just-released U.S. Department of Agriculture inspection report documents that NAMSA staffers jury-rigged a broken divider between two dog kennels with a chain instead of replacing the broken lock. The shoddy fix allowed enough wiggle room for two undoubtedly stressed beagles on either side of the divider to fight. One was injured, and the other became stuck under the broken divider and died.

PETA has filed a complaint with the National Institutes of Health and is calling on the agency to bar NAMSA from receiving future federal contracts.

PETA also urges federal agencies to direct funds away from hellholes such as NAMSA and toward modern, non-animal research methods by adopting PETA scientists’ Research Modernization Deal.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org, listen to The PETA Podcast, or follow the group on X (formerly Twitter)Facebook, or Instagram.
