Animals with disabilities tend to be neglected in shelters, and sadly, those in kill shelters often find themselves prioritized for euthanasia. This was the case for Blu, a deaf dog who remained in the shelter without a prospective home day after day. Her situation was a dire one, but fortunately, there are kind individuals like Mark and his partner Sean, who specifically look for dogs like Blu, understanding the grim chances these animals face. Blu’s story reached them through her former owner, who shared that she had been part of their family for six years before circumstances forced them to give her up.

When the couple arrived at Family Dog Rescue in San Francisco, they were told that Blu didn’t have a single visitor before they showed up. Poor pup! Mark and Sean were taken to a room to meet Blu. When she walked in, it was obvious that Blu was “vibrant and full of life.” If they adopted Blu, she would become the fourth deaf dog they’ve owned. The couple obviously had patience and giant hearts. Once they met Blu, they knew she belonged with them.

Leaving her family must have been so traumatic. They explained that they did love Blu but they were forced to sell their home and move into a rental that didn’t allow Pit Bulls. Can you imagine how hard that must’ve been on Blu and her original family? Now it was time to make things right! Blu went from being one of the shelter’s longest residents to a beloved member of Mark and Sean’s family. However, Blu still suffered from trauma.

Blu remembered all too well that she was surrendered by a family she loved. Even though Mark and Sean would never bring her back to the shelter, Blu wasn’t so sure. This is a tale chocked full of patience and a lot of love. To see Blu blossom with her new dads, check out the heartwarming video below. We are beyond elated that this pup ended up exactly where she belongs!
