Finn and Fiona, a pair of pit bull terriers who have shared an inseparable bond since their puppy days, have spent the last nine years together as devoted companions. Their journey took an unexpected and challenging turn when they found themselves at the Bangor Humane Society, where they spent more than 300 days waiting for a new home. As the days turned into months, their stay at the shelter brought them closer to the one-year mark, a milestone that highlighted the urgency of finding them a loving forever home where they could remain together.

As senior dogs, the staff at the Bangor Humane Society recognized the importance of keeping Finn and Fiona together. They understood that separating them would cause undue stress and anxiety for both dogs. Thus, it became their mission to find a forever home that would welcome both Finn and Fiona.

“They are a bonded pair, both 9 years old, patiently waiting for their fur-ever home. They must go together and aren’t really looking to make new dog friends in their senior years, so a home with no other dogs is a must,” the Bangor Humane Society shared on Facebook. “They’ll do fine around dog-savvy cats and around children 16 and up. They also need to be fed separately because Fiona will help herself to Finn’s portion if given the opportunity.”

This unique set of requirements made the task of finding their perfect home even more challenging. Despite numerous inquiries to adopt them individually, the shelter remained steadfast in their commitment to keeping the pair together. They knew that the right family was out there, one that would appreciate the deep bond between Finn and Fiona and provide them with the loving home they deserved.

During their time at the shelter, Finn and Fiona made the best of their situation. They spent their days playing with each other, enjoying the grassy play areas, and soaking up the sun on bright days. Even on cloudy days, they found joy in each other’s company. Their bond was evident to everyone at the shelter, reinforcing the decision to keep them together.

The shelter staff grew fond of the inseparable duo, often observing their playful antics and gentle companionship. They witnessed how Finn and Fiona relied on each other for comfort and support, making it clear that separating them would be heartbreaking. The staff knew they had made the right choice in insisting that the two be adopted together.

Senior dogs like Finn and Fiona often face difficulties in finding new homes. Many potential adopters hesitate, fearing the potential health issues and shorter lifespans associated with older dogs. However, the Bangor Humane Society believed that Finn and Fiona’s bond and loving nature would shine through to the right family.

Finally, with just a few days left before their one-year anniversary at the shelter, the perseverance of the Bangor Humane Society paid off. After 346 days, a compassionate couple came forward, ready to welcome both Finn and Fiona into their home. The news brought immense joy and relief to the shelter staff, who had grown attached to the duo.

“It has been a fantastic month for our long-term doggos. Thank you to everybody who had a part in this,” the Bangor Humane Society wrote on TikTok, expressing their gratitude as Finn and Fiona moved to their forever home. The couple’s decision to adopt both dogs ensured that Finn and Fiona would spend the rest of their lives together, surrounded by love and care.
