Animal shelters are filled with compassionate humans who do their best to create a nurturing environment for their furry residents. However, despite their best efforts, many animals struggle with the uncertainty and longing that comes with waiting for a forever home. Some animals, particularly those who spend longer than expected in the shelter, can become disheartened, hiding in the corners of their kennels or displaying anxious behaviors like spinning in circles. But then, there are dogs like Santo, who, despite the odds, refuse to lose hope and continue to do everything they can to be noticed.
Santo, a lovable dog with an infectious spirit, arrived at the Animal House Shelter, a non-profit organization in Huntley, Illinois, with high hopes. Having recently escaped the fate of euthanasia, Santo was full of excitement and ready to start a new chapter with a loving family. However, things didn’t go quite as planned for this optimistic pup.
Day after day, potential adopters would pass by his kennel without giving him a chance. Santo watched as other dogs found their homes, yet he remained, patiently waiting for someone to choose him. An entire 355 days went by, and Santo still found himself without a family. Yet, his resilient spirit never wavered. Despite the setbacks, Santo continued to hold onto hope.
In a heartwarming video shared on the Animal House Shelter’s TikTok account, Santo can be seen demonstrating his best behavior. He patiently sits, looking around with hopeful eyes, showing everyone what a good boy he truly is. Santo realized if he sits calmly more people will approach his kennel.
The video’s caption explains Santo’s plight: “Meet Santo! He has been waiting for his forever family for 355 days. He is a 3-year-old collie/greyhound mix that is good with other dogs and older kids! He is very energetic and would thrive with training. Come meet this sweet boy at the Animal House Shelter in Huntley, Illinois.”
The shelter staff are dedicated to finding Santo the perfect home and hope that the right person will soon reach out to them. They describe Santo as an energetic dog who would thrive in an active household. He would do best in a home with adults or older children and would love having a doggy sibling to play with. “Santo would love an active family. He would do best with adults and older children. He loves to play and is super affectionate! He also gets along great with other dogs so wouldn’t mind a doggy brother or sister!” a spokesperson for Animal House Shelter told Newsweek.
Santo has so much love to give. His affectionate nature and boundless energy make him a great companion for anyone willing to give him the chance he deserves. He will shower you with affection and make you feel like the best owner in the world. Santo’s sweet personality and eagerness to please are just waiting to be discovered by the right family.
If you or someone you know is looking for a loyal, energetic companion, consider filling out an adoption application for Santo. He’s ready to bring joy and love into his new home.
