One early morning, Juliette Motta was up before dawn to see her boyfriend off to work. It was around 3 a.m., and after he left, she intended to crawl back into bed and fall asleep. However, her peaceful morning didn’t go quite as planned. As she began to drift off, something unusual stirred beneath the covers, pulling her from her half-sleep state. “At first, I thought it was my dog scratching herself,” Motta shared on TikTok. She reached down to investigate, but what she found was entirely unexpected.

Her next thought was that a bug had flown into the room through the fourth-story window her boyfriend had insisted on keeping open. Still groggy and uncertain, Motta decided to capture the moment on video. “I started recording because I was going to send that video to my boyfriend, saying, ‘Look, because we left the window open, a bug got in,’” she explained. But what happened next left her stunned.

As she filmed, a bat suddenly darted out from under the covers. “When a bat came out, I was like, ‘What the f—?’ I hadn’t planned for that,” Motta recalled. Startled and unsure of what to do, she called a friend for assistance. Meanwhile, the little bat had found a new hiding spot in her closet.

Her friend arrived quickly and was able to capture the bat and carefully relocate him safely outside. “The bat was fine,” Motta said. “I have a video of the little bat happily climbing in the tree [we put him in]. He looked good.” The bat appeared to be in good health and showed no signs of unusual behavior. Still, Motta knew better than to handle the tiny creature with her bare hands. Experts advise against direct contact with bats, as they can sometimes carry diseases.

Reflecting on the unexpected encounter, Motta admitted, “The truth is, it scared me a lot…” Despite the initial fright, she was relieved the situation ended well—for both her and the little bat.

She Could Barely Walk or Breathe When Rescuers Found Her

Rescuers swooped in, but when they got the pup into their care, she had lost the use of her back legs, was struggling to breathe, and weighed just around 20 pounds.
