The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center’s tripartitie mission centers on providing compassionate and collaborative care to animals and leading the advancement of veterinary medicine through innovative clinical research and education. This mission defines AMC’s purpose and directs our work to effect positive changes in veterinary care.
Charitable Pet Care
Patient care is the backbone of AMC, and we care for thousands of beloved pets every year. Our community funds support some of that care, providing financial assistance to cover care for guide dogs, pets owned by senior citizens, pets needing cancer treatment and rescue animals needing a fur-ever home, among others.
These 14 charitable funds not only improve the health of the animals but help maintain the human-animal bond so critical to pet owner well-being. Additionally, supporting pet care through our community funds empowers our hospital staff to use their skills fully to improve animal health, creating a positive work environment focused on healing rather than strictly financial constraints.
Education Mission
AMC is a teaching and learning organization with a long history of advancing veterinary education through programs for veterinary professionals and the public alike. Our postgraduate internship program is over 60 years old, and AMC pioneered the development of residency training that leads to board certification in veterinary specialties.
Our pet owner education program is run by a dedicated institute at AMC: the Usdan Institute for Animal Health Education, which is a leading provider of pet health information. The Usdan Institute offers free content and programming for pet owners and animal lovers in the form of webinars, videos, a pet health library, a newsletter and digitally distributed pet health tips. Our Facebook, X, Instagram and LinkedIn accounts provide quick and timely insights into pet health.
Clinical Research
AMC advances science by studying the naturally occurring diseases of our patients. This mission-driven research was on full display during our recent Resident Research Poster Session. These posters, a capstone research project by our graduating residents, highlighted improvements in patient care, described new diseases and presented unusual cases. You can see all the posters and listen to residents talk about their research project on our Research Spotlight page.
Making a Difference
Mission-driven organizations strengthen our communities in many ways, and AMC is proud of our role in advancing the veterinary field through education and research while providing exceptional care to the animals and families we serve.
