Mastiff Mix Sets World Record for Longest Tongue on a Living Dog
A mastiff mix named Aussie has earned an unusual and amusing place in the record books. According to his owner, Angela, Aussie is now the official world record holder for the longest tongue on a living dog. His measurement comes in at an astonishing 19.89 centimeters, or 7.83 inches. When Angela received confirmation of the record, she could not help but laugh, knowing this remarkable feature had been part of Aussie’s life since he was a puppy.
Aussie is a mix of French mastiff and bullmastiff, two breeds known for their size, strength, and gentle nature. From the moment Angela met him, she says his calm temperament and loving personality made it clear he belonged with her family. But there was also something unmistakably different about him. Even as a young pup, the tip of his tongue rested outside his mouth. As he grew, that small quirk became more pronounced, eventually turning into the record setting feature it is today.
At first, Angela worried that the unusually long tongue might signal a medical issue. She brought Aussie to veterinarians multiple times to be safe. Each visit ended with reassurance. There were no dental problems, no jaw abnormalities, and no health concerns. His tongue simply grew longer than average. Angela affectionately describes it as awkwardly long, but completely harmless. Over time, it became one of the first things people noticed, often sparking smiles, laughter, and curious questions.
Beyond his physical uniqueness, Aussie’s personality has made him just as memorable. Angela says he balances two extremes. Most of the time, he is relaxed and lazy, happily stretching across the floor and sleeping for hours. But once outdoors, his energy changes instantly. He becomes playful and bouncy, hopping around with enthusiasm that surprises people given his large size. Despite that size, he is gentle and careful with those around him, even if he occasionally forgets how big he truly is.
While the world record has brought attention to Aussie, his family knows the title is just a bonus. To them, he is a loyal, loving companion whose quirks make everyday life more joyful. Aussie’s story highlights how what once seemed unusual can become something to celebrate, especially when it belongs to a dog who spreads happiness wherever he goes.
