A small dog hid silently beneath a parked car, her body pressed tightly against the pavement as if she hoped the world would simply pass her by. Her eyes were wide with fear, watching every movement around her. The noise and chaos of the street made her even more anxious, and she refused to step out into the open. For hours, she remained there, frozen between exhaustion and fear, unsure if anyone approaching meant danger or help. This frightened pup would later be named Tuesday, and the long, tense day she spent hiding would eventually become the turning point that led her toward safety, care, and a completely new life.
Joey, a Los Angeles dog rescuer known for helping animals in desperate situations, first spotted her trembling under the vehicle. She would not come out. Every small movement sent her retreating deeper into hiding. Still, Joey refused to give up.
He spent the entire day patiently trying to earn her trust.
Tuesday had likely learned that humans were something to fear. The streets had not been kind to her. Her thin frame and nervous posture told a quiet story of survival.

Still, dedicated rescuers continue to show up.
One of the people leading that effort is Rebecca Corry, founder of the Stand Up For Pits Foundation. Her mission is to fight dog abuse and advocate for animals that too often go unseen.
Rebecca first connected with Joey after learning about dogs being mistreated on Skid Row. Her foundation initially offered financial support and supplies to assist with rescues.
But once she saw the scale of the problem, she knew she had to do more.
Rebecca and Joey, along with several other activists, have worked tirelessly to raise awareness and push for change. They have reached out to Los Angeles Animal Services, the LAPD, and even city council members in hopes of getting more protection for vulnerable dogs.
So far, meaningful action has been slow.
In the meantime, rescuers continue saving dogs the only way they can. One at a time.
When Rebecca learned about Tuesday through Joey, she immediately stepped in to help ensure the dog received the care she desperately needed.
Tuesday was taken straight to the veterinarian. She received medical exams, blood work, and deworming treatments. For the first time in a long while, someone focused entirely on her well-being.

Instead of hiding on city streets, she spends her days exploring the outdoors. She goes camping and hiking with her new family. She even gets to run through fresh snow, something she may never have experienced before.
