Thousands of puppies roam the streets every day without a permanent home or even a temporary shelter for refuge. Mila, a street puppy, was in dire straits, suffering from severe anemia and barely able to stand on her own. She appeared to be beyond help until Esdras Andrade intervened. Esdras has been rescuing stray animals voluntarily since he was thirteen. Upon receiving a call about Mila, he immediately went to her location, determined to save her. At that moment, Mila was emaciated, ill, and anemic. Moreover, she was deeply traumatized and fearful of humans, yet too weak to flee.

Resigning to her fate, Mila didn’t realize that Esdras’s touch would be the first gentle human interaction she had ever experienced. In her dreadful state, trusting humans again seemed like a distant reality. She had been badly mistreated by kids who chased her and used her as a toy for their own enjoyment. When Mila first entered her rescuer’s house, she was incredibly timid. However, one thing was clear – she was a sweet puppy yearning for affection and kindness.

Esdras cleaned her dirty coat and decided it was time for her first bath, likely ever. Surprisingly, Mila did not resist the bath; instead, she seemed to find relief and relaxation in the water for the first time in her life. Within just a week in this new, caring environment, there was a noticeable improvement in Mila. She became less frightened than when Esdras first rescued her.

She began to eat better, move about the house, and explore her new surroundings. Underneath her previously sad eyes, a beautiful, gentle temperament emerged, revealing Mila as an affectionate and delightful companion. She’s now ready to meet a new family and start a wonderful life as a cherished pet. And, we are certain she will her forever home very soon.
