Training your dog to perform tricks requires dedication and patience, but the rewards are immensely satisfying when they finally master them. However, one woman’s dog-training achievements surpass the usual commands like sit, stay, and speak.

Sandra Roth, an accomplished dancer with years of stage experience, has a unique talent for performing duets with an unconventional partner: her dog.
Roth participates in the sport of “dog dancing” with her Border Collie, Lizzy. This sport involves owners and their dogs performing choreographed routines in competitions. Although dog dancing isn’t widely popular, it is undeniably captivating to watch.
According to The Dodo, Roth, a jazz and ballet dancer, considers dog dancing “the perfect sport” because it allows her to combine her passion for dance with her love for her dog.
However, teaching Lizzy to dance was no easy feat. The Dodo shared this excerpt from Roth’s profile: “Lizzy has been learning tricks and freestyle moves since she was a puppy. But we’ve had many problems and she was not an easy dog. So our main focus for the first 3 years was on her social behaviour and not on dog sports.”
Roth’s perseverance paid off, as Lizzy eventually learned the skills needed to compete beautifully with her owner. She even began to enjoy the attention from the crowds.
The duo entered a dog dance freestyle competition in Germany, where their performance dazzled the audience and became an internet sensation.

The routine took place in a spacious room and was set to piano music from “The Last Unicorn.” Roth wore a stunning white costume and a unicorn horn, while Lizzy performed without any additional accessories. Their dance was mesmerizing.
As Roth executed ballet-style movements, Lizzy mirrored her with her own graceful moves, including kicking her hind leg like a ballerina.
Lizzy demonstrated impressive skills such as walking backward, weaving through Roth’s legs, and jumping elegantly. At one point, she even performed a running leap over Roth’s head, earning applause from the audience. A viewer on YouTube commented: “How is this possible? How did you manage that!??!!! Amazing!!!”
The strong bond between Roth and Lizzy was evident throughout their performance, making one wonder about the time and dedication required to perfect the routine. Their hard work clearly paid off.

Some viewers on YouTube were moved to tears by the performance. One person wrote: “Amazing. That put a tear in my eye and another rolling down my cheek. Just lovely.” Another commented: “That was sooo beautiful. I cried so much because of the connection they must have. That breed of dog is naturally super intelligent but that was amazing.”
