Most days at the police station are pretty ordinary, but one day in Odessa, Texas, the officers got a surprise visitor. A cheerful dog walked right into the station as if he had important business.

This friendly pup seemed to be turning himself in because he was missing from home! Sergeant Rusty Martin welcomed the happy dog, who didn’t seem worried at all. Unlike other lost pets who might hide or act scared, this brave dog chose to meet the officers face-to-face.

He wasn’t in any trouble; he just wanted to hang out with the police. The officers on duty were thrilled to spend time with him and join in on his playful mood.

Sergeant Martin told The Dodo:

“We were all excited to have him in the building. We had a tennis ball and threw it in the lobby for a bit. Everyone loved on him.”

The dog had a collar and looked well taken care of, but he didn’t have any tags to show who he belonged to. The officers tried to find his owner, but there were no clues.

They couldn’t find any records about him in their system. Was he a stray? Or maybe he was there to help them catch a bad guy?

Actually, the German Shepherd named Chico was probably just looking for some fun and maybe a treat. Maybe he thought he’d get a reward for being a “good boy” by turning himself in!

Or perhaps he wanted to apply for a job as a K-9 officer and thought showing up in person would help.

The police department shared pictures and a message about the dog on their Facebook page:

“So…. this happy guy randomly strolled into the front desk of the Police Department last night. We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation.”

After enjoying some playtime and attention, Chico decided it was time to go home. He politely let himself out the door.

Sergeant Martin wrote in a post on Facebook:

“He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave. He let himself out and after an exhausting search was not found. We were relieved to learn he safely returned to his owner. Chico is welcome back anytime.”

As for Chico’s owner, Edward Alvarado, he didn’t even know his one-year-old dog had slipped out. He was asleep when Chico ran out through the gate!

Edward hoped to train Chico to be a guard dog for his dad’s store, but it looks like Chico isn’t quite ready to take that job seriously.

Man Let His Seven Dogs Slowly Deteriorate in His House of Horrors

The man responsible is facing felony charges but must never be allowed to own or care for animals again.

He didn’t realize Chico had gone on an adventure until his nephew sent him a photo of Chico on Facebook. Turns out, the sneaky dog had become famous overnight!

Chico might be the first missing dog to solve his own case, even if he was the one who caused it. If he ever returns to the police station, he’s first in line to become Detective Doggo!
