Most of the animals at a PETA-sponsored spay/neuter clinic in Mexico were brought by their guardians, but one little dog checked himself in. Gordon wandered into the temporary clinic purely by chance, and PETA fieldworkers leaped into action to help the homeless dog, who was malnourished, exhausted, and injured. A new PETA video follows Gordon on his journey to his new home and shows his dramatic transformation into a healthy, high-energy, beloved companion.

Gordon Came From the Streets and Now Gets Lots of Treats

Gordon was an unanticipated passenger for PETA fieldworkers on their way back from Mexico, but when he wandered into the spay/neuter clinic, they knew they couldn’t leave him behind. Safe at last, Gordon—who was riddled with intestinal and tick-borne blood parasites, was suffering from demodectic mange, and had a fractured femur—relaxed in a fieldworker’s arms.

The Dancing Star Foundation sponsored Gordon’s surgery, and after a few weeks of recovery, he had almost healed. PETA soon found him a loving home with one of the group’s donors. Now, Gordon is all smiles. He spends his days hiking, canoeing, and snuggling on the couch with his new guardian.

How You Can Help Animals Like Gordon

Funding for temporary sterilization clinics, like the one Gordon wandered into, helps reduce the suffering of animals for generations, as fewer unsterilized dogs and cats mean fewer animals born into communities that don’t have the resources to care for them. So far this year, PETA’s Global Compassion Fund has sponsored four spay/neuter clinics in Mexico, providing free sterilizations for more than 1,920 animals in underserved communities. PETA fieldworkers also deworm dogs, fit them with collars, and deliver doghouses, dog food, and flea prevention to animals in these neighborhoods—all free of charge.
