On a routine trip to the doctor, Dyesa and her friend stumbled upon an unexpected sight—a tiny puppy sitting in a shopping cart outside a grocery store in Phoenix, Arizona. The pup, with his big, worried eyes, seemed desperate for help. The two women couldn’t ignore him and hurried over to see what they could do. He appeared visibly relieved when they approached the little dog they later named Herbert. Determined to assist, Dyesa and her friend began searching for answers about his situation.

They asked store employees about the puppy, only to learn he had likely been there since 5 a.m., with no sign of an owner. Saddened by the idea that Herbert may have been abandoned, the women gave him food and a warm jacket, ensuring he was comfortable while they figured out the next steps. Dyesa shared Herbert’s story on her TikTok account, hoping her followers could help him find a loving home. Viewers were both heartbroken by his plight and furious at the thought of someone abandoning him. Dyesa and her friend called Animal Control, who soon took custody of the little dog.

@dee_yes_suh Dog abandoned at the parking lot 2124 E McDowell Rd Phoenix, AZ Found an abandoned dog in the Food City parking lot today The workers said he’d been out in the cold since before they opened. We couldn’t take him home, but we made sure he had food and gave him an old jacket from our car to keep warm. We called a local shelter to rescue him, hoping he finds a loving home soon. He was so sweet—it breaks my heart to think anyone could do this to such an innocent soul. #RescueStory #phoenix #arizona #dogsoftiktok #fyp ♬ Clouds – Luke Faulkner

However, Herbert’s story took an unexpected turn. Five days later, Dyesa posted an update revealing the truth: Herbert hadn’t been abandoned at all. “The dog ran out of the house, and the owner couldn’t locate him,” she shared in the comments. How the pup ended up in the shopping cart remained a mystery, but it became clear his owner had been frantically searching for him, contacting shelters, and hoping for any news.

Unbeknownst to the owner, Herbert had been taken in by Maricopa County Animal Care & Control. Unfortunately, because he was on a stray hold and hadn’t yet been registered in their system, the owner couldn’t locate him initially. It wasn’t until a friend stumbled upon Dyesa’s TikTok video and shared it with him that the pieces finally came together. Overjoyed, Herbert’s owner rushed to the shelter to bring him home.

That same day, Dyesa visited Herbert at the shelter and witnessed the heartwarming reunion firsthand. The pup couldn’t contain his excitement, jumping and wagging his tail as he recognized his dad. The dog, actually named Roy, had the biggest smile on his face when he saw his dad. It was evident he missed him, too! Back at home, his doggy sibling was equally thrilled to see him.

@dee_yes_suh First thing this morning, we went to check on Roy (aka Herbert) at the shelter after he received screening he needed. Little did we know, the video we posted would lead his owner straight to him! We found out Roy has a brother who was heartbroken while he was missing, but now they’re reunited and happy again. Huge thanks to everyone who engaged with the video, TikTok truly brought Roy home. #reunited #dogsoftiktok #fyp #arizona #phoenix ♬ Stuff We Did (from ‘Up’) – Piano Version – your movie soundtrack

Grateful beyond words, Roy’s owner thanked Dyesa for her kindness and for sharing the video that ultimately led to their reunion. Thanks to her compassion, the little dog’s journey had a happy ending, bringing a family back together again.

She Could Barely Walk or Breathe When Rescuers Found Her

Rescuers swooped in, but when they got the pup into their care, she had lost the use of her back legs, was struggling to breathe, and weighed just around 20 pounds.

Please remember to microchip your pet and keep your information up-to-date. We are beyond grateful for this happy ending, but not all families are this blessed. Welcome home, Roy!
