When a family’s beloved Husky, Wiley, suddenly fell ill, they were beyond heartbroken. It began with Wiley lying around, unable to get off his dog bed. His mom, Sally, tried to coax him over, but that didn’t work. If she tried to move him, he howled in pain. Wiley was taken to the veterinarian, where he was tested for everything the vet could think of. Scans and X-rays revealed nothing obvious, so he was just prescribed painkillers.
Wiley’s mom took him to the chiropractor, who, along with the vet, put him on a modified activity schedule. This meant Wiley could not play outside. If you know Huskies, then you can imagine Wiley’s disappointment especially when he looked out the window and saw snow falling.
Sally’s boyfriend Dusty, realizing how much she loves her dog, decided to do something quite special for them both. Dusty took Wiley outside to go potty and watched him closely to make sure he remained calm. Sally heard banging while she was resting on the couch coming from the back deck. Sally looked outside and saw Dusty hard at work.
This wonderful guy was using a pail to make ice blocks. He was stacking the ice blocks on top of one another, forming the perfect dog-sized igloo. Wiley supervised the process, excitedly waiting to go inside his own personal icy hideaway. Once inside, Wiley was in doggy heaven! He couldn’t stop smiling.
Soon after, Wiley was diagnosed with lupus. While the disease isn’t curable, there is treatment. Wiley is doing much better now that he’s on the right medication. He is a bit limited but can enjoy the snow again and, of course, his igloo.
