Layla and Lola have always relied on each other, especially during difficult times. When they first arrived at their local animal shelter, the bond between them provided comfort as they waited patiently for their owners to return. Although their family eventually reclaimed them, the reunion was short-lived, and the loyal sisters found themselves back in the shelter not once but twice more. By the third time, it became clear that they had only each other to lean on as they held out hope for a brighter future.

Despite their loving natures, their trauma from being surrendered multiple times left Layla and Lola heartbroken and confused. Their third stay at the shelter was the most challenging, as they realized that their only constant was each other. The days passed without any interest from potential adopters, making their situation seem increasingly dire.

Just when their prospects appeared bleak, Humans and Animals United (HAAU) discovered their story through a photograph. Understanding the urgency of their situation, Rosa Fond, the founder of HAAU, swiftly began raising emergency funds and searching for a foster family willing to take both sisters in together.

Little did Layla and Lola know that a flurry of activity was underway behind the scenes to ensure their safety. That night, as they snuggled close for what they thought was another lonely night in the shelter, a rescue team was preparing to change their fate. The following morning, volunteers from HAAU arrived to take the inseparable pair away from the shelter, and the dogs’ elation was palpable. The joy of leaving their kennel was enough to bring tears to the eyes of everyone involved.

After departing the shelter, Layla and Lola were taken to a veterinary hospital for thorough check-ups. Their excellent health reports meant they were cleared for foster care, bringing them one step closer to finding a permanent home.

A kind-hearted foster family soon welcomed the pair, offering a temporary haven where they could experience love and safety. The rescuers at HAAU, exhausted but relieved, were overjoyed to have secured a nurturing environment for the sisters.

“They are bonded. We would never [separate] them,” HAAU emphasized in a Facebook comment. “They need [and] depend on each other. [It’s] the only way to do right by these girls.”

The foster home quickly became a place of comfort for Layla and Lola, where they basked in affection from their temporary caretakers. While they still search for their forever family, the pair is too busy enjoying the warmth and care they currently receive to worry about what lies ahead.
