I feed my dogs boiled skinless and boneless breast of chicken, the leanest organic ground beef and turkey I can find, also boiled, boiled eggs, mashed potatoes, white rice, sweet potatoes, peas, carrots, pumpkin, green beans, and sugar free applesauce. And they are absolutely thriving! Happy and energetic. Commercial pet food is absolute poison, and that includes veterinary prescription food.

An allergy test at the vet to determine what they’re allergic to. Or Royal Canin ultamino is the most well tolerated for all allergies.
Also for everyone recommending some meat made at home- dogs far and wide are most often allergic to the protein source in their food. And if you are cooking at home you need a balanced diet of nutrients NOT ingredients you would feed a human.

Mine had same problem, needed actual prescription for Hill’s Gastrointestinal Biome food. Only thing she can eat without having lots of liquid stools. Fed her everything from Orijen, Fromm, Farmer’s Dog prepared food, and even cooked her boiled skinless chicken and white rice to get it under control and nothing other than the prescription stuff worked. She’s been great on it going on 2 years now.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Best Foods for Pomeranians with Allergies
What are the most common food allergies in Pomeranians?
Pomeranians often suffer from allergies to ingredients like chicken, beef, dairy, wheat, corn, and soy. These allergens can trigger symptoms like itching, gastrointestinal distress, and ear infections. Identifying and eliminating the offending ingredient is key to managing their allergies.
How can I tell if my Pomeranian has a food allergy?
Common signs include chronic itching, skin rashes, frequent ear infections, vomiting, diarrhea, and excessive licking of the paws. If you notice these symptoms, consult your vet for an elimination diet or allergy test to pinpoint the exact trigger.
What are the best protein sources for Pomeranians with allergies?
Hypoallergenic or novel protein sources like duck, salmon, venison, and lamb are ideal. These are less likely to have been introduced in the dog’s previous diet, reducing the risk of allergic reactions.
Is grain-free food better for Pomeranians with allergies?
Not necessarily. While some Pomeranians may benefit from grain-free diets, grains like rice and oats are generally well tolerated. It’s more important to avoid common allergens than grains specifically—unless your dog is sensitive to them.
Are limited ingredient diets good for allergic Pomeranians?
Yes. Limited ingredient diets contain fewer components, making it easier to identify and eliminate allergens. These formulas typically use a single protein and carbohydrate source to minimize the chance of an allergic reaction.
Can homemade food help Pomeranians with food allergies?
Homemade diets can be beneficial since you control every ingredient. However, they must be carefully balanced to meet nutritional needs. It’s best to work with a veterinary nutritionist to ensure your dog gets all essential nutrients.
What ingredients should I avoid when choosing food for an allergic Pomeranian?
Avoid artificial preservatives, colors, and flavors. Steer clear of common allergens like chicken, beef, corn, soy, and dairy. Always read labels and choose food with clearly labeled, high-quality ingredients.
As always, be sure to consult your veterinarian before making any health changes to your pomeranian’s food. iHeartDogs is reader supported, so some of the links above may be affiliate links where we receive a small commission at no additional cost to you.
