Goodyear Blimp Carries Snoopy and Future Service Dogs in Milestone Flight
The skies above Southern California recently carried some very special passengers. As part of a celebration marking multiple anniversaries, the Goodyear Blimp flew with Snoopy from the Peanuts gang and a group of future service dogs destined to change lives.
The flight honored three milestones at once: the Goodyear Blimp’s 100th anniversary, Snoopy’s 75th birthday, and 50 years of Canine Companions, the nonprofit that provides service dogs to people with disabilities completely free of charge.
Onboard the blimp were young puppies who will one day become fully trained service dogs. They were greeted by a cheering crowd of volunteer puppy raisers, each committed to helping guide the pups through their first 18 months of training. These early months are critical, as volunteers teach the dogs basic skills and socialize them to prepare for their future work.
Two of those raisers, Cuban Kim and Audrey Chung, are UCLA students balancing schoolwork with the rewarding responsibility of raising a Canine Companions pup. “Besides both of our loves for dogs, I think there’s just something that spoke to us,” Audrey explained. “The mission of Canine Companions is to provide professionally trained service dogs to people with disabilities, enhancing their lives and independence. It’s definitely been hard—it’s our senior year—but I couldn’t think of anything more worthwhile.”
Their foster pup now attends classes alongside them, gaining confidence in all sorts of real-world environments. For Kim and Chung, the experience is both challenging and deeply meaningful, as they know the puppy will eventually transform someone’s life.
Canine Companions has been preparing dogs for 50 years, training them to assist with mobility, hearing, PTSD, and other needs. Each service dog represents not only freedom and independence for their future partners but also the dedication of countless volunteers, trainers, and supporters.
The Goodyear Blimp flight was more than a publicity event—it was a celebration of teamwork, resilience, and hope. With Snoopy onboard and tails wagging, the flight marked the start of a new journey for the puppies who will one day help people live with greater independence.
