Overcrowded shelters across Louisiana are stretched beyond capacity. Dogs and cats are often confined to tight kennels, doubled up in cages, and overlooked as new animals continue arriving every day. With limited space and resources, the most vulnerable pets face an uncertain future.

But on March 3rd, hope arrived from the sky. Thanks to the generosity of supporters and the dedication of iHeartDogs’ Hero VIP Club and Greater Good Charities Second Chance Movement, the Lucky Chance Emergency Rescue Flight took off from Louisiana, carrying animals toward a brighter future.

On board were 79 dogs and 40 cats, all traveling north to Wisconsin shelters where adoption demand is high, and space is readily available. For these pets, the flight wasn’t just transportation; it was a lifeline.

Because of programs like this, animals trapped in overcrowded shelters can be relocated to communities where families are ready and waiting to welcome them home.

The pets from this flight were received by incredible Wisconsin shelter partners, including:

Elmbrook Humane Society

Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS)

Humane Society of Jefferson County

Humane Society of Southern Wisconsin

Washington County Humane Society

These organizations are now giving the transported animals the care, attention, and adoption opportunities they deserve. And for many of the dogs on this flight, their stories are just beginning.

Meet Some of the Dogs Given Their Second Chance

Diesel: A Steady Companion Ready for His Fresh Start

Diesel is a Pit Bull Terrier mix who made the journey from Louisiana to Elmbrook Humane Society in Wisconsin. With a calm spirit and hopeful outlook, Diesel is ready to begin the next chapter of his life. At three years old, he has grown out of the puppy phase but still carries the energy and curiosity that make him a wonderful companion.

For Diesel, this journey represents something bigger than distance traveled. It’s a bridge to stability, belonging, and the family he’s been waiting for.

Heavenly Hash: A Bright Puppy With a Big Future

At just 12 weeks old, Heavenly Hash already shows the intelligence and enthusiasm that make her special. This Hound/Labrador mix flew from Louisiana to the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County, where she’ll have the opportunity to grow up in a loving home.

She already knows how to sit and eagerly participates in training sessions, showing focus and curiosity well beyond her age. With the right family guiding her, Heavenly Hash has everything she needs to grow into a confident, joyful companion.

Beau: A Friendly Dog Who Loves Being Part of the Action

Beau, a four-year-old Springer Spaniel mix, arrived at the Humane Society of Jefferson County ready to share his affectionate personality. Beau is known for his friendly greetings and warm enthusiasm for meeting people. He already understands a few basic commands and enjoys learning new things with the people around him.

His adaptable and social nature means he’s ready to become a cherished part of a family’s everyday life.

Daisy: A Resilient Young Dog Ready to Belong

Daisy is an 11-month-old Shepherd mix who once wandered unclaimed through a rural community. Despite the uncertainty of her early days, Daisy approaches the world with trust and openness. She walks calmly beside people, enjoys exploring her surroundings, and quickly forms connections.

Now safe at the Humane Society of Jefferson County, Daisy is ready to begin the life she’s always deserved, a home filled with companionship and stability.

Shade: A Playful Pup Full of Joy

Nine-month-old Shade, a Shepherd mix, arrived at the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County with a bright personality and playful spirit. Shade loves engaging with both people and other dogs, especially during playtime. His affectionate nature and joyful outlook make him a natural companion for an active family.

With guidance and routine, Shade is well on his way to becoming a confident and loyal adult dog.

Pongo: A Survivor Ready for His Forever Home

Pongo’s story is one of resilience. When he was first found on the street, this four-year-old American Bulldog mix was in such poor condition that he was not expected to survive.

But the people who found him refused to give up. They helped nurse him back to health, providing training, structure, and the consistency he needed to heal and grow.

Now Pongo has arrived safely at the Humane Society of Jefferson County, ready for the next chapter of his journey: a forever home where he can share the love he’s learned to trust again.

Katniss: A Gentle Soul Ready to Trust Again

Katniss is an 11-month-old Labrador Retriever mix who came to Elmbrook Humane Society after her previous family was unable to care for her. Since then, Katniss has blossomed into a calm and affectionate companion. She walks well on leash, connects easily with other dogs, and shows her affection with quiet snuggles and gentle companionship.

Her journey is proof of what patience and compassion can accomplish.

Why These Rescue Flights Matter

Every Second Chance Rescue Flight helps relieve overcrowded shelters while giving adoptable pets access to communities where families are actively looking to adopt. Without these flights, many animals would remain stuck in overcrowded facilities with limited resources.

Thanks to the Second Chance Movement, pets like Diesel, Heavenly Hash, Beau, Daisy, Shade, Pongo, and Katniss now have the opportunity to meet the families who will love them forever.

But many more animals are still waiting.
