Tomas came to us when his owner unfortunately had to move house, and was heartbroken as he was unable to take Tomos with him. Tomas was a big, chunky boy but we immediately noticed that his chin looked odd. His previous owner told us that he had some teeth removed recently, which could account for the swelling.
Tomos initially hid away in his igloo, and was confused and anxious about his new surroundings. Over the next few days, our Cattery staff gently encouraged him to come out and accept a fuss from us, and he slowly began to trust us and appreciate some attention.
When our vet saw Tomos, she was concerned about the appearance of his mouth, and suspected a tumour, they also diagnosed an undershot jaw, something that is quite rare in cats. Tomos was neutered and vaccinated, and the vet ran some tests and scans, taking a biopsy to find out more about the condition of his mouth. He seemingly took it all in his stride, eating and grooming normally and was happily padding away whilst receiving lots of fuss.
A week later, the lab results thankfully showed that Tomos’s tumour was benign. However, there was a chance that it could grow and become cancerous, so we decided to remove it. The procedure was a success, and Tomos recovered very well.
In the meantime, a lovely local family who had adopted from us previously, visited the rescue looking for a feline friend as they had lost their pet recently. They immediately fell in love with Tomos and his sweet nature. Tomos went off to his new home and new life.
Without testing, medical supervision and attention, this would not have been possible. Thanks to our supporters we can be there for Tomos, and hundreds more animals like him.
