Since 2016, iHeartDogs and iHeartCats have had the incredible honor of partnering with Greater Good Charities (GGC) to help save the lives of shelter pets through The Second Chance Movement. Together, we’ve helped turn everyday compassion into measurable impact for dogs and cats in desperate need of hope.
What started as a shared mission has grown into a life-saving movement powered by animal lovers like you.
Through the support of iHeartDogs and iHeartCats shoppers and Hero VIP Club members, The Second Chance Movement has helped fund over 450,000 rescue transport miles, including 406,765 miles for dogs and 49,890 miles for cats. So far, more than 1,700 animals have been transported from overcrowded, high-risk shelters to communities where families are waiting to adopt.
And every mile matters.
Why Transport Saves Lives
Across the United States, animal shelters face dramatically different realities. In some communities, shelters struggle to keep up with adoption demand because there simply aren’t enough pets available. In many Southern states, however, shelters are overcrowded, underfunded, and overwhelmed.
For countless adoptable pets, especially large dogs, homeless cats, and animals with treatable medical conditions like heartworm, the odds can be devastating.
Many shelters simply don’t have the resources to provide expensive medical treatment or maintain safe housing when intake numbers surge. Even healthy, loving animals can run out of time before they ever get the chance to meet a family.
That’s where The Second Chance Movement steps in.
How The Second Chance Movement Works
The Second Chance Movement is a charitable program run by iHeartDogs in partnership with Greater Good Charities. The program funds transportation for at-risk shelter pets from overcrowded, high-kill shelters to no-kill rescues and shelters in regions where adoption demand is high.
Every purchase from the Second Chance Movement collection helps contribute travel miles that support these life-saving journeys.
Because sometimes, the only thing standing between a shelter pet and a forever home is distance.
Meet Good Flights
One of the most impactful programs supported through this partnership is Good Flights, a Greater Good Charities initiative dedicated to transporting vulnerable pets to safety.
Good Flights conducts life-saving airlifts and supports ground transport for at-risk animals, focusing heavily on:
Asymptomatic heartworm-positive shelter dogs
Disaster relief transport
Homeless cats
Large dogs and other harder-to-place pets
The program also helps shelters during emergencies by evacuating animals during disasters, creating desperately needed space in overcrowded facilities, and transporting critical pet and human support supplies to affected communities.
Most importantly, Good Flights gives pets a real chance at survival. Dogs and cats transported through Good Flights are often adopted quickly after arrival because they are moved to communities where loving families are actively waiting to adopt.
A Compassionate Process Built Around Animal Welfare
Good Flights is staffed by trained animal welfare transport professionals who follow best practices for safe pet transport. The program works closely with veterinary teams and shelter staff to identify qualified transport candidates and ensure every animal receives proper care throughout the journey.
In addition to covering transportation costs, Good Flights provides:
Mentorship to sending shelters
Pet care supplies
Cash grant support for shelter partners
USDA-compliant interstate transport procedures
This collaborative approach not only saves lives today but also strengthens shelters and rescue organizations for the future.
The Future Takes Flight Because of You
The past ten years have shown what’s possible when compassion turns into action. Together, we’ve helped thousands of shelter pets leave overcrowded shelters behind and begin new lives with loving families.
But the mission is far from over.
Every day, vulnerable dogs and cats still need rescue flights, medical care, safe shelter, and a second chance at life. Shelters across the South continue to face overcrowding and limited resources, while countless adoptable pets are still waiting for someone to help carry them toward hope.
That’s why your support matters so much.
When you shop with iHeartDogs and iHeartCats, donate, or join the Hero VIP Club, you become part of this life-saving journey. Your support helps fund rescue transport, shelter assistance, medical care, and emergency response efforts through Greater Good Charities and programs like Good Flights.
