Raaw Energy has issued a major recall affecting more than 180 lots of frozen raw dog food products due to contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, and Campylobacter jejuni.

The recall includes all dog food products manufactured between July 17, 2025, and December 23, 2025, along with one lot produced on March 31, 2026. The issue came to light after the Connecticut Department of Agriculture received a complaint involving a dog illness, prompting additional testing by state authorities.

Pet owners who purchased affected products are urged to stop feeding them immediately and review the recalled date codes.

Company Announcement

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after state agriculture officials investigated a consumer complaint involving a sick dog. Testing conducted by Connecticut and New Jersey authorities found all eight unopened samples positive for one or more harmful bacteria.

Following expanded testing, the recall grew to include more than 180 lots across multiple frozen raw dog food flavors, including Chicken Medley, Beef and Chicken, Beef and Salmon, Turkey Medley, Salmon, and others.

The recalled products were sold nationwide in 2-pound and 5-pound frozen tubes packaged inside brown cardboard boxes containing 10 clear plastic tubes.

Raaw Energy stated that consumers should immediately stop feeding the recalled food and safely dispose of it.

The company also announced that it will temporarily stop all dog food production effective May 21, 2026, while it evaluates the current issues and implements corrective actions.

According to Raaw Energy, planned improvements include resurfacing key production areas to make them smoother, more sanitary, and easier to clean. The company also stated that all drains and sewer lines will be thoroughly cleaned and treated, with additional sanitation efforts focused on evaporators. In addition, Raaw Energy says it is strengthening its quality-control procedures by purchasing a pathogen detection system and testing every batch to help improve product safety and quality moving forward.

Despite the temporary production pause, Raaw Energy noted that deliveries are still scheduled for June.

Why This Recall Matters

The recalled products may be contaminated with three harmful bacteria: Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, and Campylobacter jejuni. These bacteria can cause illness in both pets and humans who handle contaminated food or surfaces.

Salmonella

Salmonella infections in dogs may cause vomiting, diarrhea (including bloody diarrhea), fever, decreased appetite, lethargy, and abdominal pain. Some infected pets may show no symptoms while still spreading the bacteria through saliva and feces.

In people, Salmonella can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Severe cases may lead to more serious complications, particularly in young children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals.

Listeria monocytogenes

Listeria infections can be especially dangerous for pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, muscle aches, headache, confusion, loss of balance, and gastrointestinal illness.

Campylobacter jejuni

Campylobacter infections may cause diarrhea, abdominal cramping, fever, and vomiting in both pets and people. In rare cases, complications can occur, including arthritis or neurological issues.

The FDA has received additional reports of illness in animals linked to the recalled products since the original advisory was issued earlier this year.

If your dog consumed any affected product and is showing symptoms of illness, contact your veterinarian promptly.
