Every year from September 15 through October 15, Hispanic Heritage Month honors the cultures, communities, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino people. At PETA Latino, it’s also a chance to celebrate the influential voices and supporters who are helping build a kinder world for animals.

And what a year it’s been.

In 2026, animal advocates across Latin America spoke out against bullfighting, challenged cruel experiments on animals, helped dogs and cats in need, pushed for freedom for dolphins, filled the streets with powerful demonstrations, and more. 

Together, we’ve made meaningful progress for animals, and we’re just getting started.

Amazing Victories for Animals in 2026

Momentum Keeps Building Against Bullfighting

On Anti-Bullfighting Day, PETA Latino once again united influencers, artists, and supporters to celebrate progress and look ahead to a future where no bull suffers for “entertainment.”

This year also brought significant victories in the campaign against bullfighting:

Tijuana chose compassion. When bullfights threatened to return after a three-year absence, the city’s mayor, Abdiel Gutierrez, stepped in and canceled the event. Later, after PETA Latino and Abogados Animalistas México supported an initiative led by a local councilwoman, Magaly Ronquillo, the Regulation of Bullfighting Shows was repealed, and bullfighting was banned in the city.

Yucatán continued to move away from cruelty. Legal actions supported by PETA Latino and Animal Heroes led a federal court to prohibit the use of weapons, devices, or other practices that inflict harm on bulls in 10 scheduled bullfights in May 2026. So far, seven definitive suspensions have been secured in seven different cities across Yucatán, making the scheduled bullfights in those cities impossible to carry out in their traditional form and saving the lives of dozens of bulls.

Intelligent, social bulls form close bonds with other members of their herds and value their lives. Every victory against this bloody spectacle means more bulls are spared a terrifying, violent death.

An Animal Test Was Halted

Curious, family-oriented mice and rats won when a federal judge suspended the cruel Forced Swim Test at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) in Mexico, thanks to a lawsuit filed by PETA Latino and Movimiento Animalista de Puebla.

In this notorious experiment, experimenters place small animals into inescapable containers of water and force them to swim for their lives. The suspension marks a significant step forward against these cruel, pointless tests.

PETA Latino Gave Hundreds of Dogs and Cats a New “Leash” on Life

Curbing animal homelessness and overpopulation starts with spaying and neutering, and PETA Latino continued that mission throughout 2026.

PETA Latino–supported clinics gave hundreds of dogs and cats lifesaving surgeries in Mexico and Puerto Rico. Through free sterilization surgeries, the clinics helped prevent thousands of animals from being born only to face abandonment, neglect, and life on the streets.

Dolphins Got a Helping Hand

This year, PETA Latino dedicated World Dolphin Day on April 14 to educating the public about marine park captivity and encouraging supporters to take action.

We partnered with influencers who spoke out for dolphins while urging authorities in Quintana Roo to establish the region’s first seaside sanctuary.

PETA Latino’s Demos and Events That Turned Heads

Taking Animal Liberation to the World Cup

When the World Cup came to Mexico, PETA Latino seized the opportunity to reach thousands of fans with messages of compassion. In Mexico City, advocates joined influencers and celebrity supporter Sofía Sisniega to promote delicious vegan eating. Meanwhile, in Guadalajara, supporters rallied against the city’s continued allowance of bullfighting, urging mayor Verónica Delgadillo to stop this cruel spectacle once and for all.

Confronting H&M Over Wool

PETA Latino’s campaign against the wool industry took center stage in Mexico City with a powerful demonstration outside H&M’s flagship store on Madero Street.

Supporters dressed as bruised and bloodied sheep formed a striking barrier outside the store while holding the bodies of “dead sheep” and urging shoppers to consider the violence behind wool. The dramatic display highlighted who sheep really are: gentle, family-oriented animals who suffer when wool farmers tear them from their flocks.

Celebrities Speaking Up for Animals

Throughout 2026, well-known voices from across the Spanish-speaking world used their platforms to encourage compassion for animals.

Andrea Meza Rallied for Being Vegan

2020 Miss Universe Andrea Meza reminded her audience that true beauty starts with keeping kindness on the plate.

Ariadne Díaz Inspired Action for Bulls

The star of Papás ​​por Conveniencia (Dads for Convenience) joined PETA Latino for a powerful ad and video inspired by The Story of Ferdinand, the children’s tale about a young bull who doesn’t want to fight

Kate del Castillo Spread Her Wings for Birds

In PETA Latino’s stunning campaign, the internationally renowned actor and PETA honorary board member delivered an important message: Birds don’t belong in cages.

Castillo explained why “every caged bird is a stolen life,” pointing out the stress, loneliness, and deprivation birds suffer when humans steal them from their homes or breed them in captivity to be sold as “pets.”

Chiquis Took a Bath for Dolphins

Ahead of Boycott SeaWorld Day on July 24, the Latin Grammy Award–winning singer transformed into a mermaid trapped in a bathtub to show how dolphins suffer in tiny, cramped marine park tanks.

Ale Müller Was Chained to a Rooftop to Speak Up for Neglected Dogs

The star of Diseñando tu amor and La CQ took on a challenging role for PETA Latino’s campaign, appearing dirty, distressed, and chained by the neck on a desolate rooftop. The striking image was a reminder that dogs should live safely inside the home with their families, not tethered outdoors.
