Lulu, a Greyhound who raced over 200 times, had never experienced the warmth and comfort of a loving home. That is until a woman named Kaylee, who had recently lost her Greyhound named Murphy, decided to adopt Lulu as a way to honor her late companion’s memory. When Lulu arrived at her new home, it quickly became apparent that she didn’t know how to be a dog. The television, for instance, was a significant trigger for her, causing her to become frightened every time it was turned on. Additionally, Lulu struggled with everyday tasks like navigating stairs, requiring Kaylee’s husband to carry her down.
Despite these challenges, Lulu quickly adapted to her new environment, loving the attention and affection she received. However, she initially feared men and took a few weeks to warm up to Kaylee’s husband. She’s also terrified of Kaylee’s father, who is a long-time dog lover. The family is still working on helping Lulu trust men completely, but they’ve made some progress.
At home, Lulu has two distinct personalities. Indoors, she is sweet and affectionate, often joining her family on the sofa for cuddles. It’s clear that she is incredibly grateful for her new life, and her happiness melts Kaylee’s heart. Lulu’s quirky features, such as her big, white teeth that stick out when she’s asleep, only add to her charm.
However, Lulu’s personality changes when she ventures outside. She becomes shy and withdrawn, uncertain of her surroundings. During a trip to the beach, Lulu remained hesitant, unsure of how to enjoy the new environment. Despite these setbacks, Kaylee knew from day one that Lulu was there to stay.
The love and connection between Lulu and Kaylee are undeniable. When Kaylee told Lulu she reminded her of Murphy, the Greyhound laid her head on Kaylee’s chest for a cuddle, causing Kaylee to burst into tears.
Lulu’s incredible journey and transformation is a prime of example of why fostering and adopting is so important. The pup went from the racetrack to a loving home thanks to the hard work of rescue groups and loving people like Kaylee and her family. While Lulu took a while to adjust, she is now living her best life. Help her celebrate it by watching and sharing the video below.
