These prestigious awards honor the extraordinary individuals who dedicate their lives to protecting and conserving the National Wildlife Refuge System. From refuge managers and tireless employees to passionate volunteers, dedicated Refuge Friends groups, and vocal advocates, we seek to recognize the remarkable achievements that make a difference for wildlife and wild places. Paul Kroegel Award – Refuge Manager of the Year: Recognizes outstanding leadership in refuge management and protection.

Refuge Employee of the Year: Honors the exceptional work of dedicated refuge employees.

Refuge Volunteer of the Year: Celebrates the invaluable contributions of passionate volunteers.

Molly Krival Award – Refuge Friends Group of the Year: Applauds the tireless efforts of Friends groups supporting our refuges.

Refuge Advocate of the Year: Acknowledges the impactful advocacy efforts of individuals protecting refuges from external forces.

Mark your calendars: Nominations are open as of February 7, 2024, and the deadline to submit your nomination is Wednesday, March 20, 2024. Award recipients will be announced in May 2024 and will celebrated during the 2024 Wildlife Refuge Awards ceremony and celebration on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, in Washington, D.C.
