We were alerted to the plight of Roxannze after a concerned member of the public posted photos on social media.
She was in an appalling condition, and could not be ignore. To see an animal like this is heartbreaking and devastating, worse still it transpired she was not stray, but was someone’s cat, along with the others.
Thankfully we were able to bring in not just Roxanne, but three other adult cats and a total of nine kittens. None of the cats were in good condition, all of them crawling with fleas and riddled with worms. One with a hernia and another cat heavily pregnant. She gave birth in foster just days after the rescue.
Thankfully we do not witness such a heartbreaking sight often and it will haunt us for sometime. To see a mother cat with eight small kittens to feed in such poor condition. She was completely emaciated, our vet said she had used all of her reserves and was literally draining her body to keep feeding her kittens. Most of her fur on her body was missing from fleas, and she has many scabs and scars from being continually harassed by unneutered male cats. Her body is completely ravaged from years of having litter after litter of kittens. There is no doubt that if she had she not been saved, she wouldn’t have survived much longer.
We were able to care for both Roxanne and her kittens they are now in loving homes and will never have to face hungry and fear again.
