Puppies Archie and Winston were discovered in South Texas, left inside a box and forced to fend for themselves in one of the hardest places in the country to be a homeless dog. With shelters and rescues already overwhelmed by the ongoing animal crisis in Texas, countless dogs never get the chance they deserve.
Thankfully, a compassionate foster opened their home, giving the brothers a safe place to wait while rescuers searched for someone willing to take them. Eventually, it looked like their luck had finally changed when a rescue in Colorado committed to bringing Archie and Winston north.
Then, at the last minute, everything fell apart.
When One Door Closed, Another Opened
Many dogs disappear into the rescue system after setbacks like this. But Archie and Winston had people who refused to give up on them.
A dedicated rescuer named Dee continued sharing their story, determined to find another opportunity. Another rescuer, Nikki, helped spread the word even farther. Eventually, their story reached Alexis at Bosque Animal Rescue Kennels (BARK).
The moment Alexis saw the two boys, she knew they belonged at BARK.
With help from volunteer pilot Ryan Gomez of Hope Wins! Animal Rescue Transporting, Archie and Winston were flown safely to BARK, where they could finally catch their breath and prepare for the next chapter of their lives.
Now, instead of wondering what comes next, they’re receiving the care, comfort, and love every dog deserves while they wait for the next leg of their journey.
Wings of Hope
Getting Archie and Winston to safety took more than determination; it took someone willing to take to the skies.
Volunteer pilot Ryan Gomez, founder of Hope Wins! generously donated the flight that carried the boys from South Texas to BARK, giving them the fresh start they desperately needed. Ryan uses his personal aircraft, appropriately named Hope, to fly at-risk dogs out of overcrowded shelters and dangerous situations, donating every rescue flight himself so that donor dollars can go directly toward the animals’ care.
Perhaps the most touching part of Ryan’s mission is what happens after each successful rescue. Every dog he transports earns a paw print sticker on the side of his plane, a growing tribute to the lives that have been given a second chance. Archie and Winston now have their own paw prints on Hope, a lasting reminder that two more dogs are one step closer to the loving homes they deserve.
Next Stop: Colorado
Very soon, Archie and Winston will become two of the 22 dogs traveling on iHeartDogs’ next Rescue Road Trip.
Thanks to Bosque Animal Rescue Kennels (BARK), these deserving dogs will leave overcrowded Texas behind and travel to Colorado, where shelters, rescues, foster homes, and adopters are waiting to welcome them.
For Archie and Winston, this road trip represents far more than a change in scenery. It represents a second chance after being abandoned. A third chance after losing their first rescue placement. And, hopefully, the chance to find the forever families they’ve been waiting for all along.
Rescue Takes a Village
Archie and Winston’s journey is proof that rescue is never the work of just one person. It took strangers across multiple cities and states, all saying, “These two will not be left behind.” Each person carried the story a little farther until it reached exactly where it needed to go.
Now, supporters like you are helping carry them the rest of the way. Because every mile driven, every transport arranged, and every safe arrival depends on compassionate people who believe every dog deserves another chance.
Help More Dogs Reach Their Happy Ending
Archie and Winston are just two of the 22 dogs whose lives will be changed by this Rescue Road Trip.
