Got information about meat industry fraud? PETA could pay you $10,000.

PETA has long exposed the suffering behind misleading “humane” labels slapped onto packages of animals’ flesh. But the deception may go even deeper. Meat marketed as “humane” may come from the same standard factory farms consumers are paying a premium to avoid. We’ve already seen allegations that this happened at one company, which raises the question: How often is it happening elsewhere?

That’s why we’re offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to enforcement action against a meat company for repackaging, relabeling, or otherwise misrepresenting meat products. Industry insiders know what happens out of the public eye, and we’re asking them to come forward.

This Isn’t Just Misleading Marketing. It’s Bald-Faced Lies

We’ve already seen what whistleblowers can uncover.

Farmer Focus, for instance, built its brand on bogus “humane” claims. But a whistleblower alleged that the company purchased more than 50,000 pounds of chicken flesh from another producer and repackaged and resold it as its own. If true, that would directly contradict Farmer Focus’s “humane” claims, along with its claim that “[a]ll of [its] chickens are processed in USDA Organic facilities owned by Shenandoah Valley Organic, Home of Farmer Focus Organic Chicken in Harrisonburg, Virginia.“

These allegations lend even more credence to the fact that “humane” labels shouldn’t be trusted.

No Matter the Label, Animals Still Suffer

Even if the meat, eggs, or dairy came from a facility that meets the requirements of “Certified Humane” or similar program, those labels don’t prevent animals from suffering.

At Farmer Focus’s own Virginia slaughterhouse, an insider told PETA that chickens allegedly suffered broken and bruised wings, drowned in an overfilled stunning bath, or were fully conscious when struck in the face, neck, and wings by an automatic kill blade. Some birds reportedly remained conscious after these failed throat cuts and were still alert when a machine tore their heads from their bodies.

And Farmer Focus is just the beginning. PETA investigations into operations selling meat, eggs, and dairy labeled “humane,” “free-range,” “organic,” “cage-free,” “Animal Welfare Certified,” and the like have all exposed crowding, filth, deprivation, injuries, and violent deaths.
