We’re on the road to help keep Merseyside’s pets exactly where they belong — with their people.

Animal rescues across the region are full, and the demand for rescue places just keeps growing. We knew we needed to think differently — not just help when pets reach rescue, but step in earlier and help families before things reach crisis point.

That’s where Petmobile comes in. The Petmobile brings practical support and sound advice for everyone to access, straight to your doorstep before a crisis happens. A pioneering new community initiative, operating as a mobile lifeline, the specially equipped vehicle will tour local neighbourhoods to provide free, comprehensive support to struggling pet owners, aiming to keep families and their pets together.

The launch comes at a critical time for animal welfare in the region. Locally, and nationally, rescue centres are operating at maximum capacity, facing an unprecedented and sustained demand that means rescue spaces can’t be guaranteed. Rather than stepping in after a pet has been given up, or turning animals away, The Petmobile acts as a proactive safety net, directly addressing the causes of unaffordable costs, unmanageable behavioural issues, and owner health or relationship crisis that too often result in heartbreak.

To pro-actively prevent a crisis, The Petmobile will deliver a wide range of free, on-the-ground services directly into the heart of Merseyside communities, including:

Free face to face health checks, diet plans, pet food, flea and worm treatment via mobile vet nurse, and free 24/7 remote access to a qualified vet to keep pets healthy and avoid big vet bills later.
Free behavioural plans and ongoing support from a qualified positive reinforcement behavioural trainer to resolve issues before they become unmanageable.
Free pet food pantry and essential equipment such as beds, harnesses, leads, and toys.
Free microchipping, and owner detail updates, and neutering vouchers to relieve pressure on rescues from strays and breeding, and protect rescue spaces for other animals at risk.
Free professional advice, crisis preparation and non-judgemental, friendly practical support for owners.

Emma Jensen, Director of Freshfields Animal Rescue said:

“UK and local rescue centres are full, but surrendering a pet doesn’t have to be the only option. We know that the vast majority of people do not want to give up their animals; they are simply pushed to the brink by overwhelming pet health costs, or behavioural challenges, or don’t know who can help in a crisis. The Petmobile is bringing judgment-free help right to their doorstep. By providing free medical and behaviour training help, pet food, microchipping, neutering vouchers and professional friendly support, we are protecting the deep bond between people and their pets and easing the unsustainable pressure on our local shelters. The service is for everybody. If you are struggling in Merseyside, please don’t give up your pet. See where we are next and come and see us’.

The Petmobile’s community tour has begun, with its next stops scheduled across community centres, supermarkets and Merseyrail stations.  Find out where we will be next here
