Washington, DC–The Endangered Species Coalition is pleased to announce Jewel Tomasula, PhD, as the new Policy Advisor. 

Jewel comes to Endangered Species Coalition (ESC) from the office of Congressman Don Beyer, where she completed a John A. Knauss Sea Grant Fellowship.  She brings a wealth of expertise in federal policy and ecological sciences. In her previous role she handled a legislative portfolio in natural resources and wildlife, climate and clean energy, and other environmental issues and worked closely with the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition and Endangered Species Act Caucus. Jewel earned her doctorate in Biology from Georgetown University where she researched human-driven impacts on biodiversity in coastal wetlands. During her time at Georgetown, she led organizing campaigns and built coalitions, serving as the founding president of her graduate labor union, Georgetown Alliance of Graduate Employees – American Federation of Teachers Local 06440. Jewel earned her BS in Environmental Science from Southern Methodist University and has her roots in central and south Texas.

“It is my pleasure to welcome Jewel Tomasula to the Endangered Species Coalition,” said Susan Holmes, Executive Director. “Her expertise and network will help our over 400 coalition member groups be effective advocates for endangered species on Capitol Hill and State legislatures.”
